The coronavirus has had a devastating effect on the arts and culture sector due to large gathering restrictions and the spread of the virus.  As the arts and culture sector plans for re-opening museums, theaters and other arts spaces that gather large groups of people, many leaders are working together to share best practices and coordinate opening. Join colleagues for a webinar with the Minnesota top expert on the pandemic, the “Dr. Fauci of Minnesota” Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.  He will provide the latest information about the pandemic and its future as well as advice for welcoming people back to our venues as artists, audiences, visitors, and employees.

Nonprofit Personnel Strategies Beyond PPP: Where Finance and HR Meet will focus on personnel strategies and related financial effects for nonprofits who are faced with ongoing questions about service continuity, cost reduction, possible layoffs, program closures, and organizational survival. How does your organization instill its values into hard choices about personnel cost reduction, decisions about who gets furloughed or has hours reduced, and if and how and when to bring your staff back together?

Unemployment Insurance Survey for Self-Insured Nonprofits

Is your organization one of the 100,000 or more nonprofits or governmental entities that has elected to self-insure under your state unemployment compensation system? Is your organization now facing burdensome payments to the state due to coronavirus-related layoffs and furloughs? The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, along with other state and national nonprofit allies, is advocating for relief from crippling unemployment costs. Now, we ask your help in identifying the problems and solutions, as well as a path towards new thinking on this issue. Please take the following confidential survey.

The results from this survey will help nonprofits advocate for legislative and regulatory fixes that benefit organizations and their missions.

From Common Ground to Congressional Action: Advancing the Universal Charitable Deduction

Everyone committed to the work of charitable nonprofits during these uncertain economic times is invited to join six U.S. Senators in a free event in support of expanding the charitable deduction.

Tuesday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. ET

During this pandemic, charitable nonprofits of all types and missions are stepping up even more in their communities as they struggle simultaneously with rapidly declining revenues. Organizations are experiencing increased costs from skyrocketing demands for their services, while their revenues have plummeted because they have had to cancel fundraising events and their usual fees, ticket sales, membership dues have vanished, and the capacity of donors to give has plummeted. Charitable organizations need resources as soon as possible. Six United States Senators have crossed the partisan divide to find common ground in support of a critically needed solution: the Universal Charitable Deduction:

Senator James Lankford (R-OK)
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)
Senator Tim Scott (R-SC)
Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)

During the hour-long presentation, each Senator will speak to their personal experiences, share their respect for the work of charitable organizations in their states and across the country, and give their perspectives on how Congress can strengthen the ability of nonprofits to help relief, recovery, and rebuilding during the pandemic crisis and beyond. The Senators will also answer questions and explain what they are doing to enact improved charitable giving incentives THIS YEAR.
