What does nature mean to you? Students in grades 5-8 are invited to join Minnesota’s Poet Laureate Gwen Westerman and fellow poet Michael Torres for a daylong writing workshop at Blue Mounds State Park. Alongside the poets, students will explore the beauty of nature and write their own poems. Students will receive instruction and encouragement to write in their home languages as well as English. Pens and notebooks will be provided, and students will be given prompts in advance.

Each workshop has space for 20 students, in grades 5 – 8 (academic year 2022-23).

Refreshments will include morning and afternoon snacks and lunch.

This program is made possible in part through a fellowship from the Academy of American Poets and the voters of Minnesota through a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
