150 Sails Up in Detroit Lakes
Detroit Lakes is pleased to present 150 Sails Up in DL — a community art project in Detroit Lakes, MN to celebrate their sesquicentennial in 2021. Similar in concept to the Peanuts statues in the Twin Cities, Detroit Lakes is looking for artists to transform 150 metal sailboat sculptures (75 large 4 foot and 75 small 20 inch) into works of art.
Conceptual design rendering on sailboat outline due Nov. 30, blank sailboats ready for artist pick-up by Dec. 31, with finished sailboats due Apr 1 (or Mar 1 for digital images for vinyl wrap option.) Payment is $150 for digital, $300 for small sailboat, and $500 for large. Artist retains all copyright and IP for their design, and the City of Detroit Lakes plans extensive promotion of the project during the 2021 celebration and beyond.
