But is it Folk Art?: The New Nordic Art Show

Submission photo due October 2 at midnight; of acceptance October 3; you must ship or deliver work to arrive by October 10

“Puffy shirts? Quaint music? Rosemaled wooden plates? Is folk art confined to one traditional canon? Is it allowed to migrate? Is it art of the people? The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center in Minnesota invites you to explore this very relevant question in a country that is comprised primarily of immigrants of one form or another and the First Nations people.

This show is open to anyone interested in Nordic (Swedish, Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Faroe Islands) culture and arts to submit NEW FOLK ART FORMS based on traditional methods, themes, or traditions of Nordic people from the Bronze Age to the present day. Chipcarved baseball bat? Rosemaled motorcycle helmet? Photo of your runic tattoo? We are also seeking traditional pieces to show.
Please send a jpg photo of up to 3 works by email to Thenewnordicartshow@gmail.com by October 2 at midnight.

You will be notified October 3 of acceptance to the show. Please ship accepted work to arrive no later than October 10. Shipping address for accepted work will be sent October 3. You will need to provide a second pre-paid shipping label and appropriate packaging for return of your work. Show opens October 12, 2016 and runs through November 12, 2016.”

Co-curators are NYMRCC curator and visual artist Jill M Johnson, Fargo, ND and printmaker and teaching artist Elise Forer, Chicago, IL
