City of Eden Prairie seeks MN sculptures
Call for sculpture-Click here for more details
Deadline: October 9, 2017
Eden Prairie is excited to announce a new exhibition of original public art throughout the City. The city is seeking sculptures from Minnesota artists to be displayed outdoors for one year. The sculptures will be owned by the artists and loaned to the City for the exhibition and must be appropriate for Minnesota winter weather. A stipend of $1,000 will be paid for each sculpture chosen. The artists will work with City staff on specific site selection and installation. The community will be able to vote on their favorite pieces. At the end of the year the City and others will be given the chance to purchase the sculptures if funds are available. This gives the City a great opportunity to receive feedback about artwork before its purchase. We hope to build a collection of work that has meaning for our community for years to come.
LOCATIONS
Eden Prairie Art Center: The building that houses the Art Center was donated to the City in 2008 by the family of Roger Sampson, a former resident who built the structure as a place to create art before he passed away. It is the largest single gift ever given to the City. The mission of the
Art Center is to enhance the quality of life and foster creativity in our community by providing access to the arts for people of all ages and abilities. The Art Center works to achieve its mission by offering exceptional programs such as drawing, painting, ceramics and glass fusing. There are classes for all ages, from toddler to senior.
Eden Prairie Outdoor Center: The Eden Prairie Outdoor Center is a refurbished historic cabin located on the north shore of Staring Lake. It offers a wide range of classes, workshops, trips and activities in the fields of outdoor recreation and environmental education. The site includes nature trails through forest, wetland and prairie environments, as well as a fishing pier and observatory.
Purgatory Creek Park: Located at the busy intersection of Technology Drive and Prairie Center Drive, Purgatory Creek Park is a highly visible urban park. Amenities include the Veterans Memorial, hiking and biking trails, an open-air pavilion and beautiful plantings and flower beds.
