The Jackson Center for the Arts, in collaboration with several Jackson area organizations, is pleased to announce the dedication of the first of four Interactive Art Murals in Jackson, MN.  This three panel mural is located on the north side of the Jackson Library, at the corner of Highway 71 and Ashley Street in Downtown Jackson.  The dedication will be held at 2:30pm on Monday, June 7, 2021.

The mural was designed by Jackson County Central Art Teacher Blaise Jacobson and was painted by community members in a paint-by-numbers style at the Jackson Center for the Arts.  This interactive art mural allows the spectator to become part of the art.  A bench, donated by the Friends of the Jackson County Library, has been placed next to the mural to allow all visitors the opportunity to be a part of this mural.

Three additional murals will be painted by community members and displayed in Jackson this year.  There are also plans for local businesses to host framed canvases to help increase tourism and traffic to the businesses.   These murals are possible through a Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support for Organizations Grant.

Like many small rural communities, Jackson has experienced hardships to businesses, nonprofits and residents from the COVID-19 pandemic.  Because the Jackson Center for the Arts and City of Jackson believe art precedes growth, these murals are designed to provide visitors and community members another avenue to promote our community.  All are encouraged to photograph themselves as part of the artwork.  Photos can be sent to the Jackson Center for the Arts or shared on social media using the hashtag #pictureyourselfinjackson.

Jackson is located in Southwest Minnesota at the junction of Interstate 90 and Highway 71.
