Summer Studio: Youth Art Courses

Through hands-on experiences led by professional art instructors young artists learn the process of creating, collaboration, and problem solving. And of course they have a lot of fun!

Sibling Discounts – enroll one child in a course and additional siblings take $5 off registration fee for the same course (non member rate)

June Classes

YES AND

No scripts, no memorizing, just fun! This class is creative, playful, and spontaneous. Designed for young actors of all experience levels, students will learn the basic rules of improvisation, making bold choices, thinking quickly, and how to listen. Together students will work as a team in a fun and supportive environment. Bring a shirt from home and make a YES AND screen print tshirt or poster on your last day. June 15th we’ll have a short showcase for friends and family.

Ages 8-12
June 11, 12, 13 & 14
Time: 11am  – Noon

$30 not yet members/$20 members. Minimum of 5 improvers and Maximum of 10 improvers

 

 

Smart Phone Film Making

Tell your story using audio, visual, and design techniques. Students will learn how to master storytelling, create a storyboard, film, and edit all on their smartphones or tablets. Each student will create their own 2-minute short film with the help of other student filmmakers. Student films will be screened during public events and previewed on the large screen before HYPE15’s outdoor movie experience. Students should bring their own smart phone. We will have a limited number tablets available for students who need equipment.

Ages 12-17

Time: 1 – 3

$40 not yet members /$30 members. Minimum of 4 filmmakers and Maximum of 8 filmmakers

 

 

GARDEN PARTY

Let the garden be your inspiration as you create nature themed projects including the perennial favorite, a be-jeweled cement stepping stone. This class is ideal for children who love to craft.  Led by Park Elementary Art Teacher Melissa Ovadje. All supplies included.

ages 5-8

June 25 & 26

1:00 – 2:30

$40 not yet members/$30 members. Maximum of 15 garden artisans

 

 

CREATIVE STATION

An ACTIVE studio class for younger children. Kids will have the chance to explore and play with a variety of materials and art concepts including movement, music, sculpture, and painting. This lively class is perfect for high energy kids who love to move their bodies, explore new ideas, and enjoy building, crafting and making. Led by Park Elementary Art Teacher Melissa Ovadje. All supplies included. This was a popular class last summer, register early to save your spot.

ages 5 – 8

JULY CLASSES

PRINTMAKING

Work with a variety of printmaking techniques including; reductive printmaking and image transfers. This class is designed for kids who have some printmaking or painting experience and want to learn more in – depth skills and techniques. Led by Park Elementary Art Teacher Melissa Ovadje. All supplies included

ages 10 and older

July 9 – 11

10:30 – 12:30

$45 not yet members/$35 members. Maximum 12 printmakers

 

 

Video Effects/Stop Animation

Work together as a group to create the scenes and characters using green screen technology and ipads. Students will develop a theme and make hand-made drawings, puppets and sets to create their own magical world.  All supplies included. This was a Spring After School Art Club favorite – added to our summer set by popular demand.

Ages 8 and older

July 9 – 11

1:30 – 3:30

$50 not yet members/$40 members. Maximum 8 special effect animators

 

Painted Selfies

3 days of intensive painting lessons for teens & tweens. Explore how to express your inner and outer “self” using acrylic paint and mixed media materials. Experiment with Pop Art techniques, street art style, and Expressionism using stencils, transfers, and color on canvas. includes all materials.

July 17, 18, & 19

Age 12-18

10:30 – 12:30

$50 not yet members/$40 members. Maximum 15 painters.

 

 

Stained Glass

Learn the art of stained glass from beginning to end. Each student will complete a stained glass project of easy to moderate difficulty. Class size is kept small with the focus on having fun with stained glass and learning to do it well. All tools and materials provided. Students will be working with tools and sharp glass. This is an ideal class for mature students who have strong attention to detail. Led by Melissa Ovadje. All supplies included.

July 17, 18, & 19

Ages 13 and older

1:30 – 4

$55 not yet members/ $45 members. Maximum 8 stained glass artists

 

 

Soft Sculpture

Design, stitch and sew your own Pop Art Soft Sculpture, stuffed animal or scary stuffed monster. This class is ideal for kids who love to learn about art, invent, craft, and have BIG imaginations. Led by Park Elementary Art Teacher Melissa Ovadje. All supplies included.

July 24 & 25

ages 8 – 11

10:30 – 12:30

$35 not yet members/$25 members. Maximum 12 sculptors.

Refund Policy

Full refunds will be issued to all participants if the Art Center must cancel a class due to low enrollment.

To cancel a registration, please contact the Art Center at least one week prior to the class. You will be issued a full refund.

If you cancel a registration less than a week prior to the class, you are entitled to a full credit that can be applied toward any Art Center class. Please note that this has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for any other Art Center merchandise or services.
