Southwest Minnesota Arts Council Grant Awards & Activities 2016. SW MN Arts Council grants and activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund and by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund. The McKnight Foundation provides additional funding for our individual artist programs.

Organizations: $388,071 in grants awarded:
3 Public Art, 1 Dance, 9 Visual Art, 10 Theatre, 18 Music, 7 Festivals/Multidiscipline

Schools & Youth: $54,883 in grants awarded:
1895 students at 15 schools participated in artist residencies & arts field trips.
12 youth participated in independent arts studies or attended arts camps.
841 students attended SW/WC Service Cooperative’s Conference for Young Artists (sponsored in part by SMAC).
Music teach Brian Pearson of New London received our 2016 Prairie Disciple Award.

Artists: $61,518 in grants awarded
23 artist across many disciplines: Painting, Photography, Pottery, Fused glass, Screen printing, Sculpture, Music, Theatre, Poetry, Fiction
Received grants for: Supplies, Equipment, Classes, Editing, Recording and Time.

49 artists found inspiration at our spring Artist Retreat, while taking part in workshops & networking.

6 artists exhibited solo shows in our gallery, 10 musicians performed at exhibit openings.

Potter Craig Edwards of New London received our 2016 Prairie Star Award.
