Grant Calendar: July 2018 – June 2019

SERVING: Big Stone, Chippewa, Cottonwood, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, McLeod, Meeker, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Renville, Rock, Swift, & Yellow Medicine Counties

All grants described on this calendar are contingent upon funding from the MN State Legislature and the McKnight Foundation.

 

Grants For Arts Organizations:

Art Project Grants (3 rounds):

Provides organizations in the SMAC region with up to $7,000 in matching funds to stimulate and encourage the creation, performance and appreciation of the arts (pre-packaged theatre residencies limited to $2,500). 20% cash match required.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: July 25, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Sept 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: Jun 21, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Dec 12, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Feb 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Nov 1, 2018.

 

  • Round III— DEADLINE: Mar 20, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: May 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Feb 7, 2019.

 

Art Legacy Project Grants (3 rounds):

Provides organizations in the SMAC region with up to $25,000 in matching funds to stimulate and encourage the creation, performance and appreciation of the arts through large-scale projects that will leave an arts legacy in southwest Minnesota. 20% cash match required.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: July 25, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Sept 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: Jun 21, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Dec 12, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Feb 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Nov 1, 2018.

 

  • Round III— DEADLINE: Mar 20, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: May 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Feb 7, 2019.

 

Art Legacy Project Planning Grants (monthly): 

Provides organizations with up to $2,500 to plan for a specific large-scale project or activity that will create or advance a strong arts legacy in Minnesota. 20% cash match required.

  • First-come, first-served monthly deadline until all funds have been expended. Deadline is 1st of each month, 4:30 pm, August – November 2018 and January – April 2019.  Earliest project start date is the first day of the following month after board action.

 

Arts Organization Development (monthly): 

Provides arts organizations in the SMAC region with up to $5,000 in matching funds to increase their long-term stability and capacity through organizational development and management projects. 20% cash match required.

  • First-come, first-served monthly deadline until all funds have been expended. Deadline is 1st of each month, 4:30 pm, August – November 2018 and January – April 2019.  Earliest project start date is the first day of the following month after board action.

 

Start Up Grants (monthly):

Provides arts organizations with at least two years of programming up to $2,000 to develop articles of incorporation, by-laws, and apply for their 501(c)(3) status. NO cash match required.

  • First-come, first-served monthly deadline until all funds have been expended. Deadline is 1st of each month, 4:30 pm, August – November 2018 and January – April 2019.  Earliest project start date is the first day of the following month after board action.

 

Equipment/Facilities Grant (2 rounds):

Provides arts organizations with up to $10,000 in matching funds for the purchase of equipment items and facilities improvement that will strenghten the organization’s capacity to serve the arts needs of the SMAC region. 20% cash match required.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: Aug 15, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Oct 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: July 12, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Feb 13, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Apr 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Jan 3, 2019.

 

Grants for Schools:

Arts in the Schools Grant (2 rounds):

Grants to schools for artist residencies or field trips that include educator training and community involvement, juried student art exhibits, and prepackaged theater experiences.   Up to $2,500 (field trips, juried exhibits, or prepackaged theatre), or $4,000 (artist residencies). 20% cash match for prepackaged theater only.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: Oct 10, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Dec 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: Aug 30, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Jan 23, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Mar 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Dec 13, 2019.

 

Grants For Artists:

Individual Artist—Developing Artist Grants (3 rounds):

Provides up to $2,500 to aid emerging artists at an early stage of their career development with projects that will advance their career.  No match requirements.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: Sept 12, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Nov 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: Aug 16, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Jan 9, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Mar 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Nov 29, 2018.

 

  • Round III— DEADLINE: Mar 20, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: May 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Feb 14, 2019.

 

Individual Artist—Established Career Artist Grants (3 rounds):

Provides up to $7,000 to aid established career artists in the advanced stage of their career development with projects that will advance their career.  No match requirements.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: Sept 12, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Nov 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: Aug 16, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Jan 9, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Mar 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Nov 29, 2018.

 

  • Round III— DEADLINE: Mar 20, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: May 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Feb 14, 2019.

 

Individual Artist—Community Collaboration Grants (3 rounds): 

Provides up to $10,000 to artists to create a major new work while collaborating with the community, introducing community members to the arts in a new way.   No match requirements.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: Sept 12, 2018.
    Earliest project start date: Nov 15, 2018.
    Grantwriting webinar: Aug 26, 2018.

 

  • Round II — DEADLINE: Jan 9, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: Mar 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Nov 29, 2018.

 

  • Round III— DEADLINE: Mar 20, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: May 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Feb 14, 2019.

 

Grants for Youth:

Art Study Opportunity for Youth  (1  round):

Provides up to $500 to allow young artists in grades 5-12 for an enrichment camp or specialty study.  Standard weekly lessons are allowed only for those students who qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.  No match requirements.

  • Round I — DEADLINE: Apr 3, 2019.
    Earliest project start date: May 15, 2019.
    Grantwriting webinar: Feb 21, 2019.

Special Awards:

2019 Prairie Disciple Award:

This award ($1000) acknowledges one person who has been instrumental in promoting the arts in the 18-county region of Southwest Minnesota.

Nomination Deadline: April 15, 2019.

 

Grants from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council are made possible by the voters of Minnesota, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund and through an appropriation from the MN State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund. Additional funding for artist grants provided by the McKnight Foundation. Minnesota thrives when its artists thrive. The McKnight Foundation supports working artists to create and contribute to vibrant communities.
