V. Ellen Starr is a professional artist with over 30 years of experience in multiple art forms. If it's related to an arts or craft technique, she's probably tried it - everything from metalsmithing, painting, stained glass, bookbinding, leather tooling, wood working, costuming, fiber arts, woodturning, to medieval illumination and cobbling shoes - just to name a few.
Ellen lives in Hutchinson, MN, where she makes art in her home studio, which is slowly taking over her whole house. She has taught classes in metalsmithing, painting, fiber arts, stained glass, bookbinding and many other techniques over the past 20+ years.
Starr describes her exhibit as such: "I am drawn to flowing lines, organic forms and patterns as these reflect how I experience life - as a fluid

Starr describes her exhibit as such: "I am drawn to flowing lines, organic forms and patterns as these reflect how I experience life - as a fluid
dance of constant change, inter-connectedness, intricate weavings of energy and growth. I endeavor to impart a sense of awe or reverence with each piece I create through imagery, beauty and craftsmanship as I believe the sense of the sacredness of life feeds our spirits, inspires us to greater heights and richer depths of meaning.
I was diagnosed in 2008 with stage 3A aggressive breast cancer. The years since have been an amazing journey of transformation for me. My current focus with my art is to express the wisdom, healing and gratitude that have come from the blessing of my awakening due to cancer, releasing old limiting perceptions and the birth of a new life view. My new pieces are about metamorphosis and transformations leading to discovery and healing."
Starr is a 2017 Individual Artist - Developing grant recipient. Mark your calendar to visit with Ellen and see her work at an Artist Reception from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 13.
Stay to listen to Maeve Winter of Willmar, an Art Study Opportunity for Youth grant recipient, performing on bass from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.
