Bonnie Van Moorlehem
The Southwest Minnesota Arts Council Gallery will feature the paintings of Bonnie Van Moorlehem of Minneota from November 12 through December 20, 2013.
Bonnie Van Moorlehem creates vibrant paintings that simply breathe with color and energy. Her bold, rich abstracts are renderings of nature and other various subjects, expressed through her unique point of view. Each one comes to life in a dreamlike dance of pure emotion on canvas, a breathtaking depiction of a personal experience or a moment in time.
Van Moorlehem shared the process of emotion that resulted in her artwork in this upcoming exhibit: “My paintings are a reflection of my life during the last eighteen months. I lost two family members; my mother and my sister within six months. Some of my paintings are memories of things that happened. Other paintings reflect working through the process of grief. What I dealt with are universal emotions. Almost everyone has dealt with the loss of someone they loved and they had to deal with the loss of a loved one. I believe many will be able to identify with the emotions that I have expressed in the paintings. Many of my paintings surprised me. I revealed to myself emotions that I was not even aware I was dealing with until the painting was completed.
“The majority of my paintings are done in a mandala like composition based on colors from nature. These paintings I mostly did from the subconscious. The only

“The majority of my paintings are done in a mandala like composition based on colors from nature. These paintings I mostly did from the subconscious. The only
thing I marked on the canvas was the center. I would have no preconceived notion of how the painting would be completed. I just allowed myself to get lost in the painting. The design, colors and title would just come to me.
“I also have two paintings that are abstract landscapes. With the abstract landscape paintings I knew what I wanted to do and how I wanted to complete them. My two styles during this time period represents my struggle to make things normal and then struggling with the realization that nothing will ever be normal again. I do not feel my paintings are the results of anger but a process of accepting God's plan.”
