*Slayton: The Front Porch Music Series - Route 68 Big Band

The Murray County Historical Society is kicking off the first of three concerts in the 2025 Front Porch Music Series on Thursday, July 24 at 7:00 pm. The event will showcase The Route 68 Big Band of Minneota, Minnesota. Formerly known as the Minneota Community Jazz Band, the group consists of 20 active members and plays big-band music from the ’30s and ’40s (Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, etc.) and performs five or six times per year. Directed by John Voit, Minneota High School band director, the group consists of teachers, farmers, and other local community members.
The Murray County Historical Society will serve free refreshments before the concerts and a free will donation basket will be passed to help support ongoing updates to the Dinehart House. The concerts are family friendly, so bring the kids, a blanket or some lawn chairs, and enjoy a nice night under the big maple trees on the lawn.
This activity is funded in part with a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council made possible by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund.
