Celebrating Scandinavian Folk Art in Milan. Sunday November 7, 2021. Greater Milan Initiative Community Room (Old Milan School). Noon-4 pm. Attend in person on online. (COVID-19 vaccination is required for those attending in-person.) RSVP required: pioneer.og/karen
Pioneer PBS, in partnership with the Milan Village Arts School, will be hosting an in person AND virtual event to celebrate Scandinavian American artists and their art on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from noon to 4 p.m. (CST) at the Greater Milan Initiative building (the former Milan High School) in Milan. Join Pioneer PBS and fellow Milan Village Arts School supporters for a workshop with Pieper Bloomquist and for a preview screening and engaging discussion of two new Pioneer PBS documentaries about Pieper Bloomquist and Harley Refsal. (Two master artisans with connections to the MVAS). In addition, learn about the capital campaign being launched to secure the future of Karen Jenson’s home for the use and preservation by the Milan Village Arts School. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required. To register, simply call 1-800-726-3178 or click REGISTER HERE. NOON - 2 P.M. (CST)

Workshop with Pieper Bloomquist Pieper was inspired to learn the art of Swedish Dalmålning from Karen Jenson. Now she is a master in her own right. Learn about the history of Swedish Folk painting and see how she does her work. Attend either in person or online.  RSVP is required.

2 - 4 P.M. (CST)

Screening of two new Pioneer PBS stories about Pieper Bloomquist and Harley Refsal Pieper got her start at the Milan Village Arts School. Harley Refsal is the much beloved flat plane figure carver who taught for decades at the MVAS. We will watch these two new stories and discuss. Pieper Bloomquist and Karen Jenson will be present to answer questions. Refreshments will be served. Attend either in person or online. RSVP is required.
