Visiting Writer Marcie Rendon to Read Oct. 12 at SMSU

Marshall, Minn. — Author Marcie Rendon will read from her work on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 7-8 p.m. in Charter Hall 201 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be followed by a short Q&A session, and a book signing.

Her appearance is part of the ongoing Visiting Writer series, hosted by the Creative Writing Program.

Rendon is a member of the White Earth Nation and is on Oprah Magazine’s list of 31 Native American Authors To Read. She has received numerous awards, including a McKnight Distinguished Artist Award in 2020, and a 50 over 50 Minnesota AARP & Pollen Award.

Rendon’s award-winning crime novels are Girl Gone Missing and Murder on the Red River. The latter was chosen by the Minnesota Center for the Book as this year’s One Book/One Minnesota selection.

Rendon also writes children's books and plays for theater. She received the Loft’s 2017 Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship for work with incarcerated women, and in 2020 was the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Adler University for her years of work as a distinguished social justice champion, author, and arts activist.
