*Marshall: Juneteenth Celebration

Join the City of Marshall in celebrating Juneteenth! Juneteenth, or “Freedom Day,” recognizes the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, officially ending slavery. For this reason, June 19, 1865, marks our country’s second Independence Day.

On Thursday, June 19th, the City of Marshall will be celebrating Juneteenth in multiple ways. There will be two separate events: Juneteenth Celebration and Juneteenth Food Truck Festival. 

Juneteenth Food Truck Festival:

The City of Marshall was awarded $800 for an art project led by SammyJo Miller during Marshall’s Juneteenth celebration. Participants will collaborate on a shared canvas in the style of Alma Thomas, learning about an influential Black American artist. “This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.”
