Marshall, Minn. — The second annual Festival of Woodwinds will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.
The festival is a day-long series of events for woodwind players, who will work with guest clarinetist Dr. Beverly Gibson. The day begins at 9 a.m. with warm-ups and includes a rehearsal, guest clinician recital, workshop session/masterclass, woodwind choir rehearsal and the 5 p.m. final concert.
The event is open to woodwind players of all ages, abilities and experiences.
Cost for those who register by Jan. 21 is $30. Registration fee after that is $40. Directors bringing five or more students attend at a cost of $20 per student. Registration includes lunch.
Guest artist Dr. Beverly Gibson is a clarinet professor at Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, and Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, as well as chamber music instructor for the Dakota Academy of Performing Art at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls, S.D.
She has performed on clarinet and saxophone with many artists, including the Temptations, Andy Williams, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Myron Floren and Frankie Valli.
“The inaugural Festival of Woodwinds proved to be very popular and we look forward to hosting this second annual event,” said Director of Bands Dr. John Ginocchio. “Having Beverly Gibson as our guest artist will benefit participating woodwind players in the region.”
