About the project (Written by the artist):
The first iteration of this photography project had a sincere focus on capturing the essence of local community members in a way that people may not be used to seeing them, but was true to their most inner-self. As I began working on the second iteration of this project, I had the distinct feeling that something was missing. Then, one day I was driving down the highway remembering the moment I first drove into Colorado and saw mountains in real life. I remember the awe, and nearly causing multiple accidents because it was so hard to take my eyes off the landscape. I wondered if the people who lived there ever became immune to the beauty around them. I realized, remembering that moment, that I was doing the same here. Having spent so many hours as a local journalist writing about how art makes a place and people make a place, I realized that one of the things I was missing in that focus was that the landscape we become so accustomed to seeing also makes a place. Thus, Spaces & Faces was born. Some of the places may be spaces you visit often, some may be spaces you’ve forgotten about and some may be spaces you haven’t yet discovered in our local area. All are public lands accessible to anyone.
