CALL FOR ARTISTS

COMPAS is looking for new artists to add to their roster of
professional Teaching Artists

COMPAS Teaching Artists connect with community members through performances, workshops, residencies and professional development. Programs take place throughout the state during school hours, after school, during the evening and on weekends. Locations include schools, libraries, senior care centers, events, youth programs and other community sites.

Teaching Artists are paid competitively for workshops and residencies, and performance fees are set by artist. COMPAS is most interested in artists who teach art forms or represent cultures or communities that are not their current roster or represent a gender working in an art form that is not represented on our roster.

Application and Selection

Once an artist has submitted the required information listed below, the application process consists of an initial round of consideration by COMPAS staff, followed by finalists having a face-to-face interview with our Arts Advisory Committee. If selected, incoming artists then attend a New Artists Workshop, followed by individual training meetings with COMPAS staff, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

While COMPAS is open to a wide variety of artistic approaches and backgrounds, without the following elements your application has little chance of being accepted:

  • Minnesota resident
  • Demonstrated ability as an artist
  • Prior residency or teaching experience
  • Hiring is contingent upon completing a Criminal Background Check

In order to represent the communities we engage with, COMPAS is especially seeking artists who represent communities of color, indigenous artists and LGBTQIA communities.

  • Singing/songwriting
  • Music Therapy
  • Fiction Writing
  • Graffiti/Aerosol Art
  • Drumming
  • Mural painting
  • Clay/Pottery
  • Technology-games, animation, design
  • Mosaic

Focus experience areas:

  • STEM arts programs
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Youthwork
  • Justice systems
  • English Language Learners

**The deadline to apply is January 19th, 2018.**
Interviews will be scheduled for Thursday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
