What the heck is it?

The Minnesota Humanities Center, in partnership with DangerBoat Productions, is excited to launch the Sketches of Minnesota tour. This spring and summer, MHC’s trained facilitators and a team of five of the best improv comedy performers in Minnesota—the DangerBoat troupe—will travel to five different cities and towns, to take the pulse and pull the legs of communities across the state.

In each location, MHC and DangerBoat will bring residents together over dinner and dessert for meaningful conversation about their hometown, then reflect their thoughts and feelings back at them through the playful prism of improv comedy. After producing these shows in five locations across Minnesota, we will compile what we learn from each community to create a scripted final show that will debut and be recorded in St. Paul—offering a whirlwind sketch-comedy tour of Minnesota in 90 minutes or less.

Sound wacky? Well, we believe laughter has the power to open minds, diffuse tensions, and engage audiences—even (and maybe especially) when important or divisive issues come up. We want to work with Minnesotans statewide to celebrate their communities, promote dialogue, bridge divides, and help find ways to work constructively across differences in today’s political environment—and to have a ton of fun.

It won’t hurt. (Well, maybe your cheeks.)
While the shows will be comedic, the DangerBoat troupe never punches down.Their aims are to foster understanding within and across communities, celebrate the state’s diversity, and showcase what residents cherish most about their corner of Minnesota.

Access and complete your application here before March 1, 2024!

Sketches of Minnesota is funded in part with money from the Clean Water, Land & Legacy Fund that was created with the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
