Small Stages Artist Residency program

CALL FOR ARTISTS

Little Theatre Auditorium, New London MN

May 8, 2022 application deadline for August 2022 residency

NEW LONDON, MN – Little Theatre Auditorium invites place-based performance artists who are residents or returning residents of the State of Minnesota to apply for their 2022 Small Stages Artist Residency. This fully funded program offers performance artists full use of their theater, production support, and living expenses, to develop, expand or adapt their practice in place-based performance-making into interactive art experiences, and/or performance/installations. Applications for this 4-6 week residency in August-September 2022 are due at 4:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

Small Stages is an opportunity to create performances/installations or art experiences designed for small audiences. This uniquely impactful style of interaction hopes to break through insularity and isolation, overcome cultural and communication barriers and inspire new perspectives and open conversations. We hope this program will create new approaches for how our citizens engage with each other and with shared spaces.  Thanks to support from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, the selected artist will receive a $4000 stipend and $3000 budget for production. Lodging, meals per diem and studio space will be provided.

Based in New London, Little Theatre Auditorium, is a 100-year-old theater space and music hall. The Small Stages Artist Residency is an ideal fit for mid-career to professional placemaking performance artists whose practice demonstrates exceptional cultural competency, an emphasis on process and the ability to build authentic, reciprocal relationships. Little Theatre’s hope, in partnership with the New London Arts & Culture Alliance, is for connections made between the participating artist and the New London-Spicer community to outlast the residency period. We believe this engagement-driven program has the potential to serve as the first step in a longer term process, led by the artist and the community, of creating meaningful and impactful placemaking experiences.

The application deadline for Little Theatre Auditorium’s 2022 Small Stages Artist Residency program is 4:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, May 8, 2022. An informational webinar will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022. Updates and application guidelines can be found at: https://www.littletheatreauditorium.org/small-stages-resident-artist-22
