September 29, 1-4 pm, Southwest Minnesota Arts Council (SMAC) hosts An Arts Day in Ortonville, various studio locations, Ortonville. As part of SMAC’s Annual Celebration being held in Ortonville, we are also working with the town for some studio arts tours! Please click here to learn more. September 29, 1-8 pm, SMAC Annual Celebration, Off the Green Restaurant & Bar, 145 Golf Course Rd, Ortonville. Social Hour begins at 4:00pm at OFF THE GREEN,  the clubhouse at the picturesque Ortonville Golf Club.  At 5pm SMAC will host a brief annual meeting, an award ceremony for 2018 SMAC Prairie Star Travis Erickson and Prairie Disciple Leann Atchison, and you will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for our annual “Spirit of the Region” raffle. Stick around to enjoy a delicious meal served by OFF THE GREEN catering. During dinner enjoy the musical talents of “Brothers 2,” Lee & Don Kanten, who have been inducted into the MidAmerica Music Hall of Fame. Socialize and celebrate with artists and arts supporters across the Southwest Minnesota region and learn about the grants and activities SMAC has funded in the past year. October 5, 6 & 7, Upper MN River Meander Art Crawl, Various Locations along the Upper MN River. October 5th: 12-6 pm, October 6: 9am-6pm, October 7: 9am-4pm. The Meander Upper Minnesota River Art Crawl is a tour of artists’studios and galleries in Chippewa, Big Stone, Swift, Yellow Medicine, and Lacqui Parle counties. October 25, 8am-2pm, Annual Conference for Young Artists, Southwest Minnesota State Unversity, 1501 State St, Marshall. For all students in  grades K-8, but must be registered by October 3rd. Register online: https://www.swsc.org/Page/830. This conference nourishes students’ creative and artistic talents by exposing them to a variety of visual, fine and performing arts in hopes to spark interests or open doors to potential higher education and career opportunities. Students are inspired by the talented and knowledgeable presenters who work with them during hands-on learning sessions.

October 25, 7pm, A World of Music, The Estebo Performing Arts Center, Redwood Valley High School, 100 George Ramseth Dr, Redwood Falls.  2-hour public concert featuring original music inspired by many different cultures in the Middle East, Central Asia, Far East and South America performed on over 30 acoustic string, flute and percussion instruments while using a 15-channel looping system for a sophisticated “one-man-band” effect.

October 26, 7:30pm, SMO: Making Music in Marshall, Schwan Center for the Performing Arts, 400 Tiger Dr, Marshall.  To celebrate the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra’s approaching 50th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of Dr. Daniel Rieppel being named SMO’s fifth Director of Music, this is a concert to reflect those themes of anniversary and the marking of time. November 3, 7 pm, Willmar Area Symphonic Orhestra’s “War and Peace” concert, Willmar Education & Arts CEnter, 611 5th St SW, Willmar. The Orchestra will commemorate the events of 1914-1918 with two works created during and in memory of World War I. WASO is pleased to welcome back Minnesota Orchestra Cellist, Pitnarry Shin for a performance of Elgar’s work that is darkly reflective of the human cost of all war and this one in particular. While Holst’s piece has a rather more optimist outlook, created as it was at the beginning of the War. Both works reflect in music the hopes, dreams, and bitter disappointments violent human conflict brings.

November 3, 7:30 pm, Prairie Arts Chorale “Mass Potpourri”, Bunde Reformed Church, 5088 14oth Ave SE, Clara City. The Fall 2018 theme for the Prairie Arts Chorale will be “Mass Potpourri”.
