Americans for the Arts 2021 : National Arts Action
Call To Action
During the week of April 12 – 16, 2021, Minnesota Citizens for the Arts will be hosting meetings with each member of the Minnesota Congressional delegation and you, our arts advocates, to seek U.S. Congressional support 13 core requests (click here for more details). The leading point of these requests is the following:
• Thank each legislator for supporting the arts
• Ask them to support a substantial increase for the National Endowment for the Arts in the FY22 Interior Appropriations bill to broaden access to the cultural , education, and economic benefits of the arts and to advance creativity and innovation across the United States
There is no specific dollar amount tied to this request because:
➢ the Biden Administration hasn’t released its FY 2022 Budget
➢ The House Appropriations Interior Subcommittee (which has jurisdiction over the NEA budget) hasn’t been able to respond to the administration’s budget
➢ The NEA chair and OMB chairs are not installed and are critical to the budget process
All advocacy meetings will take place via Zoom, likely less than 30 minutes, and you will be invited to share in chat:
- Your name and the name of the organization you represent, if any
- Your residence address if you are a constituent
If our groups are smaller than five or six people, you will be invited to share a short story about how the National Endowment for the Arts, CARES relief, and American Rescue Plan Act (including Shuttered Venue Operator Grants) are important to your community
After our sessions, please:
- Send a short email to staff@artsmn.org with any observations you have about what the legislator said about the arts
- Write a short email message or USPS paper mail thank you to your legislator and reiterate your support for a substantial increase for the National Endowment for the Arts
- Your legislator contact info may be found here: https://mn.gov/portal/government/federal/minnesota-delegation.jsp
